Nuevo Laredo, USA, Real de catorce

15.11.2017 – 20.11.2017

Welcome to the North! Nuevo Laredo!
In the north of Mexico you have to accept other rules: The stronger wins. Be prepared!

No just kidding, the north better said Nuevo Laredo is as safe as CDMX. Stick to your normal travel behaviour.

I had a flight from CDMX to Monterrey due to the horrendous prices to Nuevo Laredo (NLD). In Monterrey I took an Uber to the bus terminal where a bus to NLD was waiting for me (500 Pesos).

Arrived in NLD my friend Alfredo picked me up and the adventure started. Still weak from my illness and on-going antibiotics cure I was ready for a small siesta. Fortunately Alfredo had to work and I could rest a little until all of his chindron friends arrived to his palace. That night was dedicated to Rock Music, Meat, Friends and a little dancing :D.

Before the BBQ started, my friend Alfredo and his band was jamming and we had a great time.

Until I could finally start my first bbq-fire in the style of a Norteños (not the group). I put an emergency flare into the pile of wood and this is how you make a fire! It is that easy!

Nice conversations were held until the meat was ready. Delicious chicken and tasting steaks were served. I just remembered the taste of the meat it during my writing, now I am hungry.

Ahh and David our dance maestro gave us some dance lesson, that was fun!!!
I could feel the antibiotics working in my body so I called it a day.

USA USA USA!!!

Next day we went on a road trip. Alfredo, Fer and I were ready for USA. The border crossing was really interesting for me. I have never entered USA by car. Anyway our destination was Austin TX for this we needed a permission for enter “inner” USA. Finally we got them for 6$ each. Mine was valid for three months. The fun part was they really were confused when they checked my passport. Swiss? What are you doing here? What Swiss? Hahahaha.
Yeah true, two Mexicans and one Swiss is a funny combination.

First stop was in San Antonio for a small peek. We had a nice view from the tower and a lovely snack on top. Do not pay for the view just say that you will eat a snack in the bar on top, which in the end with 3 persons is was cheaper and you also ate and drank something for the money.

Back in the car we headed to Austin Texas!!!
In Austin we head a great time with the cousin of Alfredo and Fer. Delicious chicken wings without beer due to this pendejo barkeeper… And Fer destroyed us in pool billard.

Later, someone dragged us in a gay bar where you could eat cotton candy for free. It was funnier than expected.

The others called it a night but Alfredo and I were discovering the night life in Austin, which was pretty awesome. They even close a street every Thursday to Saturday for the party people. But I was happy that we just stayed a night in USA. Most of the people do not have any rhythm in their blood. L That night we slept in an inn near the centre of Austin, which was let’s say good in price for USA.

Next day was IKEA and In-and-Out-Burger (DELICOUS) and a long way ahead until Nuevo Laredo. We arrived tired and exhausted in NLD. Thank you David for lending us the truck!!!

Real Sky

Real de catorce was still on our schedule that day. Abraham, Alfredo, Beto, Hectero and I were ready for some days of fun. We left NLD with our driver Abraham Wronggear. Finally after some hours or better said 3:18 in the morning we saw the sign of real de catorce, 24 km left, yeah. On the way to the top we made a small stop and greeted the sky and all our friends with the awesome Bacanaora (Murcielago!). Around 4:20 we finally reached our hostel, where we just slept 5-6 hours!!! If you are in Rd14 stay with Sulahe in the Rustique Townhouse With Great View on Airbnb!!! She was so lovely and also the accommodation is cool. I wished we staid a night longer.

Breakfast was calling!!! Oh it was so delicious!!!The town was so lovely an breathtaking!

After we were prepared for camping, Lucy joined us for the camping trip and we finally headed out of Rd14 to our camping spot, where we camped for one night under f****** clear sky.

The night was special, I think I will never forget it. Unfortunately the antibiotics were still bothering me… We learnt a lot about the constellations and the nature and some could even connect with the nature itself. The lasepointer and the smoke was also an amazing combination.

Next morning we had a session with los brujos. I learnt a lot about my personal me and my “profile”. Thank you brujos! I will see you for sure again!!!
Small note: if you camp in the desert take a lot of clothes and a good sleeping bag with you. I nearly died :D. Thank you guys for the awesome experience and the fun moments on our trip to Rd14!!! Maybe until 2019!!!

I decided to stay a night longer in NDL for relaxing purpose. My last full day in NLD we spent at the border and had a interesting interview with the border control. I think the whole inspection was 2 hours long, even we got a 100% car inspection. Anyway it was interesting and worth it the burger in Whataburger was good but the tacos in NLD were even better!!!

I was lucky the next day I saw the parade in NLD, where you could see all the different universities parading!

At 5 pm I left NLD by flight with a lot of memories, thanks to Alfredo and all his friends!!!
As you know you are welcome!!!
